Where Are They Now- Dallas Clark by Utter-Fantasy Writer & Illustrator Doug Bowles
Before there was Gronk, before there was Jimmy Graham or Vernon Davis…..there was Dallas Clark! Along with TEs Antonio Gates, Tony Gonzalez and Jason Witten, Clark changed the way NFL teams used the tight end position in their offenses.
“That was a great pick.” This was usually the line that was written or said after IND TE Dallas Clark was chosen in fall fantasy football drafts. Either that, or “Damn it, I forgot about him”
We all remember the prolific years of WRs Marvin Harrison and Reggie Wayne during the “hay days” of the Indianapolis Colts with quarterback Peyton Manning in his prime. But what can’t be forgotten is the impact that tight end Dallas Clark had on the Colt’s offense, and the impact tight end Dallas Clark had on fantasy football rosters. Always a threat to score against opposing defenses, Clark was a favorite target for QB Peyton Manning inside the red zone.
Clark was chosen in the 2003 NFL Draft by the Indianapolis Colts with their #1 overall selection. – LINK- Clark would play for the Colts from 2003 to 2011. His finest season came in 2009, 2 years after the Colts won Super Bowl XLI. In 2009, Clark amassed 1106 receiving yards and a whopping 10 receiving touchdowns.
• In Week 2 of 2009, Clark had 183 receiving yards
• In Week 8 of 2009, Clark had 119 receiving yards and 1 TD
• In Week 13 of 2009, Clark made Colt’s fans and fantasy football owners very happy with 43 receiving yards and 3 TDs
• In Week 14 of 2009, Clark thrilled fantasy football owners again with 95 receiving yards and 2 TDs
Although Clark played one season for Tampa Bay in 2012 and one season for Baltimore in 2012, Clark signed a one-day contract with the Colts in 2014, so that he could retire as a member of the Indianapolis Colt’s team. Like WR Reggie Wayne, Dallas Clark will always be….the gutsy Colt that help win championships.
Today, Clark doesn’t rack up receiving yards from quarterback passes, but receiving grapes from his new vineyards. “Life was tough after football” Clark commented, “Football was tough, and I wanted something less demanding.” Clark seems to have found what he was looking for, in the fields of Iowa where he grew up.
With land in Algona, Iowa that Clark purchased back in 2006, and an old historic railroad station he purchased 4 years later, Dallas has established the ‘Train Wreck Winery”. -LINK- The winery officially opened on December 20th, 2011 and even Clark seems surprised by it’s success. Sometimes he will modestly mention some of the awards his wines are winning in competitions.
The “Train Wreck” wine labels features a wonderful illustration of an old locomotive coming down the tracks, and if you look closely, you can see the number “44” on the engine ( Clark’s old NFL number)
In 2011, Dallas Clark had a guest starring role in the CBS hit show “Criminal Minds” as San Diego police officer Austin Kent in the episode “The Stranger”, fulfilling an acting dream.”
Clark and his wife, Karen, reside with their two sons in Livermore, Iowa. They also hold residence in Zionsville, Indiana.
