Start Em Sit Em Week 1

Start Em Sit Em Week 1

Start Em Sit Em Week 1 by Utter- fantasy Writer & Illustrator Doug Bowles

Like other fantasy prognosticators, below are my Start ‘ Em & Sit ‘ Em players, minus the obvious. ( No one needs to read that I think fantasy owners should start WR Julio Jones this week at home vs Philadelphia  ) For the Record- I don’t claim to have anymore insight on the games than the fantasy league owners reading these, but I do enjoy sharing my “IMOs” on them, as well as reading yours :) Good Luck this week!

Quarter Backs
Start ‘Em

Ben Roethlisberger (at NE ) – With RB LeVeon Bell on suspension, I doubt Pittsburgh will rely on a running game with DeAngelo Williams-  Big Ben will throw plenty in this one

Carson Palmer (vs N.O.) – The Saints defense looks like a team all beat up after playing for 15 weeks-  They haven’t played one yet and are in bad shape- Carson should pick them apart

Teddy Bridgewater (at SF ) – SF defense is in rebuilding mode, and DT Darnell Dockett was suppose to be part of that rebuilding but he was released- SF will #1 try to stop the run, so QB Bridgewater will get the passing game going and he has weapons

Running Backs
Start ‘Em

Chris Ivory (vs Cleveland) – All preseason new HC Todd Bowles was committed to the running game and committed to RB Ivory

Mark Ingram (at Arizona) – Despite losing defensive coordinator Todd Bowles to the Jets, Arizona is still formidable. Ingram however has been huge part of the passing game all preseason, so he will get 20 plus touches and satisfy fantasy owners against a stingy defense

Danny Woodhead (vs Detroit) –Although I like rookie RB Melvin Gordon this year, I do not think in Week One vs DET that he is going to be able to run it down their throats. An elusive Woodhead however might be able to get a bunch of yards slipping thru holes and catching screen passes- he’s been featured a lot throughout the preseason- good esp. in PPR

Dion Lewis (vs Pitt) – PPR leagues….with RB LeGarrett Blount out on a one week suspension, the Pats should use RB D Lewis a lot in the old “Shane Vereen” role ( Remember however- this is HC Bill Belichick and when it comes to RBs, he loves to stick to fantasy owners- This recommendation is for deep leagues)

Wide Receivers
Start ‘Em

John Brown (vs N.O.) – Saints defense stinks- esp after losing CJ Williams- K Lewis Out-A Spencer Out-Byrd-Browner hurt

Terrance Williams (vs NY Giants ) – When the Cowboys held Dez Bryant out of Dallas’ final two preseason games, cautious with his hamstring recovery, Williams shined- we don’t know how wealthy Dez is yet, so expect a big role from Williams Week 1

Markus Wheaton (vs New England) – WR Martavis Bryant is on suspension for 4 weeks, leaving the #2 WR all up to Wheaton- Roeth has been talking Wheaton up all preseason

Andre Johnson (at Buffalo) – Andre is SO happy to be a Colt and fantasy owners will be SO happy they drafted Andre

Amari Copper (vs Cincinnati) – I like Cooper in this game for simply the amount of targets I think he’ll get

Leaonard Hankerson (vs Philly) – WR Roddy White sat out the whole preseason with an elbow injury that he even had surgery on it- Hankerson will likely be the #2 WR in this game

Tight Ends
Start ‘Em

Jordan Cameron (at Washington ) – I didn’t like JACK spending all that money for TE Julius Thomas, but did like the Dolphins signing of Cameron- An exceptional athlete that could have a big day against a team that was vulnerable to TEs last year

Delanie Walker ( at Tampa Bay)- Rookie QB Marcus Mariota will need TE Walker as a safety valve all day- he’ll get receptions, but perhaps none in the end zone

Defense
Start ‘Em

Tennessee (at Tampa Bay ) – Even though they’ll have one on their side, the TENN defense will be chopping to bear down on a rookie QB

Kansas City (at Houston) – Hoyer is going to play better than most think, but in his first week, he’s going to make a few mistakes which the Chiefs will capitalize on

Indianapolis (at Buffalo) – The Colts offensive machine will rack up points, Buffalo will fall behind early and QB Tyrod Taylor will be forced to throw more than they want him to- with RB McCoy banged up, this could get ugly

Quarter Backs
Sit ‘Em

Kirk Cousins (vs Miami) – He’s the best QB on their roster, but such little time with the starters and the Miami defense fresh, and ready…. I don’t see a big day for Cousins Week 1

Eli Manning (at Dallas) – Eli has simply looked awful this preseason. Maybe he has a good game, but until I see one, I am starting my other QB

Colin Kaerpernick (vs Minnesota) – Exactly what I just wrote about Eli Manning- Kaep has simply looked awful this preseason. Maybe he has a good game, but until I see one, I am starting my other QB

Running Backs
Sit ‘Em

Alfred Morris (vs Miami ) – Although I like the hiring of Bill Callahan (the Dallas Cowboys offensive coordinator in 2014 who helped make DeMarco Murray the #1 RB that year)- Miami and N Suh will force new starting QB K Cousins to beat them thru the air

I Crowell (at NYJ) – I don’t like that Crowell is playing at the Jets and don’t like the Brown’s HC Pettine, because I seriously doubt he ever let’s any RB on the roster get 20 touches- He’ll rotate in backs all day, diluting all their value

Bishop Sankey (at Tampa Bay) – The Titans traded for RB Terrance West ( Cleveland ) but West likely won’t be active Week One- In the meantime, we have to watch Sankey do what he always does…..11 carries for 38 yards

Alfred Blue (vs Kansas City) – HC Bill O’Brien has been upset with this running game since training camp. RB Blue is the starter so he’ll get touches, but I would want other options this week

Wide Receivers
Sit ‘Em

Mike Evans (vs Tennessee ) – Crazy I know, sitting a talent like Mike Evans, but Evans (hamstring) was held out of Bucs practice on Monday and he’s had no time to work with a rookie QB

Torrey Smith (vs Minnesota) – WR Smith is only going to put big numbers for fantasy owners…if he can get deep and QB Kaep can get the ball to him- So far this preseason Kaep has missed badly every time. I’ll believe it when I see it

Emmanuel Sanders (vs Baltimore ) – Sanders hasn’t been in any preseason game, so if you think he can come in Week One and pick up exactly where he was last year, then start him. I’m going wait a week…at least

Tight Ends
Sit ‘Em

Jared Cook (vs Seattle) – I have no idea who Foles likes to throw to yet, and Rams TEs always disappoint until one fluke week where one goes crazy- 80 yards and 2 TDs- then become waiver wire favorites, then don’t touch the ball for 4-5 games

Ladarius Green ( vs Detroit)- I have never seen the same chemistry between Ladarius Green and QB Rivers….as QB Rivers has with TE Antonio Gates- It’s always going to happen, but never does- I’m looking else where

Defense
Sit ‘Em

Saints Defense (vs Arizona) – Too beat up to be considered

Washington ( vs Miami)- Last season Washington ranked 29th in defense, and was one of only 3 NFL teams “not” to score a defensive TD in any 2014 game- I don’t think they have gotten a lot better and I don’t think they will slow down Miami
